1/10/05 - There's A New Sheet of Ice in Town

Have you been in downtown Anchorage lately?  Town Square has been transformed into Winter Center Town Square--complete with an ICE RINK--and is offering free skating for the community on Friday evenings and Saturday evenings, from 5 - 9 pm, and Sundays, from 1 - 4 pm.  In an effort to encourage the community to make use of the rink, the Anchorage Downtown Partnership has asked the Anchorage Figure Skating Club to be a part of the festivities. Several AFSC skaters will be performing exhibition programs on  Friday and Saturday nights, and AFSC will be offering free beginner's skating lessons to kids, from 2 - 4 pm on Sunday afternoons.  For a fun time, come out and support the rink!  For further information, call Joanie Hufford at 694-9789.

10/8/2004 - 2005 Rondy on Ice Announcement Released!

The Announcement for the 2005 Rondy on Ice show was sent out today, including all of the forms and information necessary to sign up to be in this year's ice show. Looks like it's going to be fun!

There are many things that are different this year from past years.  Two of the biggest changes are:

1) Any Home or Associate AFSC club member who signs up for the 2005 Rondy on Ice show will be eligible for all cast selections. This means that all AFSC Home Club members and AFSC Associate Club members will have the same opportunities for highlighted cast positions and any other parts in the show. This change has been made to give our audiences a chance to see the most talented and enthusiastic skaters Anchorage has to offer.

2) Rather than have skaters skate their individual programs competition-style as in previous years, we will be holding a Cast Placement Audition, similar to auditions for many professional ice shows, on October 31st at 3 pm at UAA. Tryout attire for the audition should be simple and BLACK-either dress/skirt or leggings are permitted. Skaters will be asked to take the ice in groups, where they will be taught a sequence of moves similar to part of a skating program. THIS IS NOT A TEST, but merely an opportunity for the Artistic Director to determine the skater's optimum placement in the show.

Deadline for submission of completed applications is October 25th

For copies of the Announcement and printable copies of the forms, click here.

Please feel free to pass this information on to anyone you think might be interested.

If you have any questions, please contact Joy Vogel at 333-8975, or email her at Chezapk@aol.com
