COMPETITION PROGRAM ELEMENTS BY LEVEL

SINGLES FREESKATE

     NON-TEST:  Unlimited single jumps; Axels and Double jumps NOT allowed

                          Minimum 1 jump combination or sequence - Maximum 3 (no limit to number of jumps included in combination or sequence)

                          Minimum 2 different spins; minimum of 3 revolutions

                          1 Step OR Spiral sequence

    PRE-PRELIMINARY:  Same as Non-test, with the exception that the Axel IS permitted and may be repeated as individual jump, combination or sequence

    PRELIMINARY:  Unlimited single jumps; Axel, plus up to 2 different double jumps which may be repeated as individual jumps, jump combination or jump sequence

                                 Minimum 1 Jump combination or sequence - Maximum 3 (no limit to number of jumps included in combination or sequence)

                                 Minimum 2 different spins; minimum of 3 revolutions

                                 1 Step sequence utilizing 1/2 of ice surface

     PRE-JUVENILE:  Unlimited single jumps; Axel, plus up to 4 different double jumps which may be repeated as individual jumps, jump combination or jump sequence

    JUVENILE:  Maximum of 6 Jump elements - One must be an axel-type jump; no more than 3 double jumps may be repeated, but, if repeated, must be in combo or sequence; Maximum of 3 Jump combinations or sequences - combos limited to 2 jumps, but one 3 jump combo is permitted . No triple jumps

                               Maximum of 3 spins, including 1 combination, with minimum of 1 change position; 1 flying spin; 3rd spin at the option of the skater - minimum of 5 revolutions; combination minimum of 4 revolutions each foot - all spins may change feet and start with a jump

                              1 straight line, circular or serpentine step sequence, using full ice surface

INTERMEDIATE:   Maximum of 6 Jump elements - One must be an axel-type jump; no more than 3 jumps may be repeated, and, if repeated, must be in combo or sequence - only 1 of the repeated jumps may be a triple; Maximum  of 3 Jump combinations or sequences - combos limited to 2 jumps, but one 3 jump combo is permitted

                               Maximum of 3 spins, including 1 combination, with minimum of 1 change of foot and one change of position; 1 flying spin; 3rd spin at the option of the skater - minimum of 5 revolutions; combination minimum of 4 revolutions each foot - all spins may change feet and start with a jump

                              1 straight line, circular or serpentine step sequence, using full ice surface

           NOVICE:    Ladies, Maximum 6 Jumps - Men, Maximum 7 Jumps - including 1 axel

                               Maximum 3 Jump combinations or sequences - limited to 2 jumps each, but one 3 jump sequence is permitted

                        No more than 3 different Jumps may be repeated, a max of 2 of which may be triples or quads

                         Repeated doubles or triples must be in combo

                               Maximum of  3 different spins, including 1 combination with 1 change of foot and one change of position; 1 flying spin; and 1 spin with only 1 position - minimum of 6 revolutions; combination minimum of 5 revolutions each foot - all spins may change feet and start with a jump.

                              1 straight line, circular or serpentine step sequence, using full ice surface

NOTE:  Standards for Junior and Senior Programs have CHANGED for 2005 season.  READ CAREFULLY, and double check requirements at USFSA website!

Maximum of 3 Spins--minimum 6 revolutions; 10 for combos--including 3 different spins; 1 combo and 1 flying spin with only 1 position are required. All spins may change feet and start with a jump..  MINIMUM 2 REVOLUTIONS IN POSITION OR WON'T COUNT.

Maximum of 2 Step Sequences - One must be a Spiral Step Sequence (any pattern)

NOTE:  Additional jump sequence containing jumps of no more than 1 revolution performed as part of connecting footwork preceding double or triple jumps are permitted and not counted as a jump element.

Maximum of 4 Spins--minimum 6 revolutions; 10 for combos--including 4 different spins; 1 combo,1 flying, and 1 spin with only 1 position are required (spin with only 1 position may commence with jump and may change feet). 4th Spin is skater's option; all spins may change feet and start with a jump.  MINIMUM 2 REVOLUTIONS IN POSITION OR WON'T COUNT.

SINGLES - SHORT PROGRAMS (Based on  2006 Worksheets)

INTERMEDIATE LADIES SP:  1 Jump combination - Single/Double or Double/Double

                                            Axel  or Double Axel Jump (cannot be repeated in solo or combination jump)

                        Double Jump, immediately preceded by connecting steps and/or other freeskating movements

                        Spin with only one position and no change of foot; may start w/a jump - mimum 5 revolutions

  1 Spin Combination w/only 1 change of foot & at least one change of position - min. 5 revolutions each foot

     1 Step sequence - straight line, circular or serpentine

INTERMEDIATE MEN SP:  Same as Intermediate Ladies

NOVICE LADIES SP:  1 Jump combination - double/double or double/triple

                                    Axel or double axel (cannot be repeated in solo or combination jump)

                     Double or Triple Jump, immediately preceded by connecting steps or other free skating movements

                              Layback or sideways leaning spin, no change of foot - Minimum 6 revolutions - may start w/jump

          Spin combination w/only 1 change of foot & at least one change of position - Min. 5 revolutions each foot

        Spiral step sequence - minimum of 3 spiral positions & at least 1 change of foot - straight line, circular or serpentine

NOVICE MEN SP:  Same as Novice Ladies SP, except, instead of specifically a Layback or leaning spin, a Spin with only one position, no change of foot, may start with a jump; and instead of Spiral step sequence, Step sequence - straight line, circular or serpentine

PLEASE NOTE THAT, AS OF 2005, THE MAXIMUM TIME FOR ALL JUNIOR AND SENIOR SHORT PROGRAMS HAS INCREASED TO 2 min 50 seconds

JUNIOR LADIES SP:  1 jump combination - double/double or double/triple

                                    Double Axel

            Double or Triple Lutz, immediately preceded by connecting steps or other Freeskate movements

                                  Flying sit spin - minimum 8 revolutions

                                  Layback or sideways leaning spin - minimum 8 revolutions

  Spin combination w/only 1 change of foot and at least 2 changes of position - minimum 6 revolutions each foot

NOTE: On all spins, Minimum of 2 revolutions in position required or position won't count.

Spiral step sequences (serpentine, circular, oval or combination) - minimum 3 spiral positions, at least 1 change of foot

            Step sequence - straight line, circular, or serpentine

JUNIOR MEN SP:  1 jump combination - double/double or double/triple

                                    Double Axel

            Double or Triple Lutz, immediately preceded by connecting steps or other Freeskate movements

                                  Flying sit spin - minimum 8 revolutions

                                  Camel spin, with only 1 change of foot - minimum 6 revolutions each foot

  Spin combination w/only 1 change of foot and at least 2 changes of position - minimum 6 revolutions each foot

                            2 Step sequences - straight line, circular, or serpentine

SENIOR LADIES SP:  1 Jump Combination - double/triple or triple/triple

                                 Triple jump, immediately preceded by connecting steps or other Freeskate movements

                                 Flying spin - minimum 8 revolutions

                             Flying spin - minimum 8 revolutions

                            Camel or Sit spin, with one 1 change of foot - 6 revolutions each foot

 Spin combination with only 1 change of foot & at least 2 changes of position - minimum 6 revolutions each foot
